Local History, Surfing & Golf in Aquitaine
St Jean de Luz is 12km away and is often overlooked by those camping in Biarritz. But Aquitaine is not a one-town region, St Jean de Luz is a picturesque port with a fascinating history. Close to the Spanish border, it is a must see on a camping holiday in the region.
The benefits of holidaying on campsites in Aquitaine are not restricted to the two locations above. Aquitaine is a huge region of France, with the lakes of the Lot pine forest a great day-trip option. Aquitaine offers numerous great facilities for the sporting and adventurous holiday-maker, including white water rafting, surfing on some of the best waves in the world, golf and pelota; the famous Basque rackets sport.
Getting to Biarritz
Campsites near Biarritz benefit from a wide range of transport options in the region, making it easy to get to from the UK and Ireland. Biarritz has a well run regional airport with direct flights from London and Dublin. It also has good TGV train links and a comprehensive bus network. If you opt for a self-drive camping holiday from the UK, then the ports of Bilbao and Santander are just 90 minutes drive and are served from both Portsmouth and Plymouth.
Bordeaux has a medium sized airport with a range of flights from the UK & Ireland and is less than 2 hours from Biarritz.
Outside of Aquitaine, campers can take advantage of flight options to Bilbao and Pau and the popular ferry ports of St Malo & Caen should be considered if travelling from the UK. Roscoff or Cherbourg are both driveable in a day to the region if travelling by car from Ireland with Irish Ferries, Brittany Ferries or Celtic Link Ferries.
